About Me

I'm Beatriz Velho and I created this blog to share my experiences and learning from two gender-related projects I will be working in during the summer of 2020.

I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and I am currently pursuing a Master's in Public Administration in International Development (MPA/ID) at the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS). Before that, I worked with research on environmental policy, at the Climate Policy Intiative Brazil, and co-founded a social enterprise called Compras do Bem.

Gender equality is a topic that I am passionate about, and I chose to learn more about it through my summer internship experiences at HKS. One of them will be focused on increasing female labor force participation in urban India through the Girl Empowerment project, run by an HKS alum. I will also work at OpenUp, a civic technology NGO from South Africa, where I will be helping with the evaluation of a project aimed at reducing gender-based violence. I thank HKS' Women and Public Policy Program for the kind support throughout this journey.
